You’ve got to give Lady MacBeth credit for moxie, if nothing else. The rookie from Kentucky had seen her career launch like gangbusters, and she was making a good name for herself in the ring. But sometimes early success can be detrimental; when you haven’t taken your knocks starting out, it’s easy to forget you’re not quite as perfect as you think you are.
Some ego inflation was definitely behind her audacious challenge to veteran sensation Candi Divine. The Tennessean was already a legend in the sport, and the kind of experienced pro which rookies tend to try and avoid at all costs. But Lady Mac not only demanded a GrudgeMatch with her, but seemed absolutely certain her victory was assured. How else to explain such braggadocio as “I’m going to show Candi Divine she’s definitely a has-been…I’m gonna whup her tail, right here, right now!”?
Candi, naturally, doesn’t think too highly of this big talking rookie. Perhaps the blonde stepped into the ring a tad overconfident. Add to that Lady MacBeth’s raw power, natural talent and willingness to bend the rules, and suddenly the veteran had a real challenge on her hands!
Of course, Divine didn’t reach the top of the sport by being a pushover, and she battles back. Eventually, she is in total command of the match, and the poor rookie no doubt was seriously questioning her earlier eagerness to face Candi!
In the end, Candi doesn’t simply go for the pin…she forces MacBeth to verbally submit to a near-crippling Boston Crab, just to show the newcomer the folly of her arrogance. After the match, Candi consents to an interview.
