Generally, a wrestler dons a mask early in their career, to make that persona their primary
identity in the ring. But occasionally, an established wrestler goes under a mask for a
specific reason. Historically, one thinks of Dusty Rhodes appearing beneath a cowl as the
Midnight Rider, or the Fabulous Moolah assuming the mantle of the Spider Lady.
And now a well-known female wrestler has likewise assumed a masked identity for one very
particular match. The question fans have is…WHY?
It almost seems a crime to cover Aria Blake’s gorgeous face with a mask, but she believed
she had good reason. Although the Floridian has been enjoying success in the ring, she
felt she had hit an impasse in her growth. What she needed, she decided, was someone
who would push her past her comfort zone and really drive her.
Happily, she knew just the wrestler who could do that: Mila Naniki.
Unhappily, there was one very big problem with that: Mila and Aria are best friends.
Oh, it isn’t as if they don’t train together. As both besties as well as frequent tag
partners, Blake and Naniki often spar. But Aria didn’t want a training bout…she wanted a
genuine match, with Mila going all-out to beat her. And that’s something that the
Latinix just couldn’t do, Aria knew…she simply loved her friend too much to unleash
her full power on her.
The only solution, Aria concluded, was that Mila couldn’t know it was her she was wrestling.
Thus, the mask. And to ensure that Naniki held nothing back, Blake petitioned PGWA
Commissioner Susan Green to declare a very special stipulation…this would be a Mask
Versus Hair Match!
With her luxurious jet-black hair on the line, Aria knew that Mila would do whatever
it took to win, which is exactly what Blake wanted. And thus was born The Unknown!
As to whether or not the fruition of this scheme was to Aria’s satisfaction, check
