NIKKI VICTORY Rookie of the Year!
Pity the word "Rookie". Through no fault of its own, it has been transformed into a denigration.
All too often, labeling someone 'a rookie' means they don't know what they're doing.
But rookie is a noble nomenclature, meaning simply that someone is a newcomer to their career.
Every single wrestler in the history of the sport, including all of the greats, did their
'woodshedding' as a rookie.
The time one spends as a rookie is an opportunity to fumble, to make mistakes, but also to
learn from the errors. And sometimes it can be exciting to behold a rookie who is not only
learning their craft, but also demonstrating flashes of potential greatness to come.
The Professional Girl Wrestling Association is proud to recognize one of those rare few,
as we bestow the title of 'Rookie of the Year' upon Nikki Victory.
Young Nikki began her career earlier this year, immediately catching the attention of fans
with her feud with Nemesis. What was most impressive is that the teenager didn't merely hold
her own against the former PGWA Champion, but gave Big Mama all of the fight she could handle!
And she has continued to excel in the months that followed, displaying a ravenous hunger to
learn as much about wrestling as possible, and all of that training is evident in the ring.
PGWA Commissioner Susan Green and the booking office were unanimous in their decision to
recognize Nikki with this award. In fact, they actually revived the Rookie of the Year
designation, which was retired after 2003, because Nikki has been so impressive.
Knowing nothing about any of this, Nikki was surprised when she was presented with her plaque
on Thanksgiving night by Roger Ruffen of the National Wrestling Federation. To say that
she was overwhelmed is an understatement!
LadySports congratulations Nikki Victory on this honor, and we all look forward to seeing
her in action in the PGWA again soon!
