Pippa's Spring Slam

SHOW REPORT:

Saturday, March 29, 2008

by Mark Lockey

"Bonfire Bonanza" was a memorable event at the Wrestling Factory in November, 2007. Fast forward to March 2008 and "Spring Slam" certainly contained some out-of-season fireworks all of its own.

This show was eagerly anticipated by a large audience, starved of the offerings from this venue since "September Sirens", 7 months ago.

The large gathering had come from all parts of the country, including Portsmouth, Warrington, Cheltenham, Manchester and London. We were treated to a healthy mix of women's wrestling : pro-style and mat based, plus, for the first time, a Ladies Boxing Match.....

MC : Mr. John Stallard.

Referee : Mr. John Slader.

Match 1:
Pro-Style:
Lucy Clayden v Pandora.

Today's proceedings commenced with a traditional pro style match.
First to the ring, a welcome return since "Coronation Carnage" to Lucy Clayden.
Lucy, a bubbly, enthusiastic wrestler who always has a smile on her face.
Her opponent, one of today's debutants to the venue, Pandora.
Pandora had a weight advantage over Lucy. However, as the match got underway,
Lucy's awesome strength and experience provided Pandora with much to think about.
They locked-up, exchanging holds, each seeking an early advantage.
Lucy dished out some kick's to the legs, trying to get her rival to the canvas
where she could continue her initial onslaught.
Pandora, responded with a questionable fist and hair-pull with received a caution
from John, the referee. 2 suplexes were applied in quick succession by Pandora and a near-pin...
Lucy was claiming an underhand bite had been offered resulting in a second caution for Pandora.
Lucy bounced back and forced Pandora onto the ropes for a 2-count.

This opening contest was concluded with a pin and a clear pull of the tights with both hands !!!

Match 2:
Mat-Based: 15 minute duration.
Shelby Beach v The Baroness Simone.

The ever popular Shelby and Simone clashed next in this mat- based contest.
Colourful costumes were on display, Simone in a pretty one piece pink leotard, Shelby
opted for a two piece pink and black combination.
These experienced girls were equally matched in size and stature.
Shelby started the stronger, using all of her strength to outwit and overpower her German rival.
Simone, retaliated and fought back strongly.
Both girls showed respect and tireless commitment as the 15 minute duration ran its course.
A narrow 3-2 win was gained in this thoroughly enjoyable match.

Match 3:
Pro-Style:
Roxi v Vicky Morton:

Crowd favourite Roxi entered the ring first and looked absolutely stunning (as always), in a
beautiful two piece black and pink costume, skillfully created by Dee.
Her opponent - another debut girl - Vicky Morton.
Roxi took control of the match from the bell. She created a series of holds and moves,
cleverly designed to weaken her slighter opponent. Vicky, though on the end of a couple of
2 counts, continued to frustrate Roxi.
A camel clutch was applied to Vicky, who, showing unbelievable resistance, managed to survive.
Roxi, undeterred, strived on and used - in her own words - "simple but effective" holds.
The stubborn Vicky was showing no sign of tapping out, the possible danger for Roxi being her
obvious frustration at being able to finish Vicky off. Roxi then applied a sleeper hold which
almost put Vicky out for the count, but, again, she hung on in there.
A fascinating contest was finally concluded when one girl tapped out.

Match 4:
Boxing:
Kizzy v Kerry:

Next up, a first for the Wrestling Factory...a ladies Boxing match.
Kizzy, returning to the venue after making quite an impact with the crowd at the previous show.
Kerry entered the ring next, another debut girl.
You will never see such glamorous Boxing costumes as worn for this match....
This may have led to the audience thinking that this was going to be a gentle affair.
How wrong we were, these girls viciously went at each other with strong punches with no head guards
or protection worn to the chest or lower sensitive areas.
This soon developed into a serious grudge match as the gloves came off !!!!
Kizzy was first to remove her gloves, inviting Kerry to do the same. She was happy to as they
launched at each other like a couple of wildcats.
The crowd were stunned at the development of this battle.
The fear being that if this match continued at such a frenzied pace, the gloves were not the
only items likely to be removed....
This match has to be seen when the DVD / download is released. Probably the most hate-filled
encounter ever witnessed at this venue.

Interval

Match 5:
Mat-Based: 15 minute duration.
Layla v Dynamo.

After the interval, the second mat-based contest of the day.
Layla, growing in popularity with every event faced a new girl - Dynamo.
Layla started on the offensive but, was gradually pegged back time and again by the
energetic, enthusiastic, Dynamo.
Dynamo's strength was to be admired for such a petite frame. Layla gained an initial
submission which was soon equalised by the determined Dynamo. A very closely fought bout,
which at one point, had Dynamo 3-2 ahead.
The match concluded with a 5-3 win in this intriguing match.

Match 6:
Mat-Based: 15 minute duration.
Phoenix v Kizzy:

Kizzy returned after her epic battle with Kerry and joined a newcomer Phoenix, in the ring.
Phoenix displayed unique red eye make-up which may have provided an insight into her
fiery character.
She is a no nonsense wrestler who attacks at speed and has a frantic pace.
This was complemented by Kizzy's more calculated strength holds.
A conclusive 9-0 victory for one lady was not as easy as it looks on paper.
Much resistance was offered by the losing wrestler.

Match 7:
Pro-Style:
Pandora v Pippa L'Vinn:

Pandora returned to the ring after the opening contest.
Her opponent, Britain's best - Pippa L'Vinn.
Pandora had a distinctive weight advantage over the lean, athletic and ever youthful Pippa.
Both girls looked superb in their traditional wrestling attire, one piece suits, tights and boots.
Pandora chose black while Pippa opted for the colourful red.
Pippa looked as though she meant business with her no-nonsense approach, undeterred by Pandora's
larger frame she set about her task and forced Pandora into some questionable hair-pulling.
The sheer professionalism in some of Pippa's moves stood out, and marks her out from all other wrestlers.
Quality holds and speed forced Pandora back. At one point she was hanging onto the ropes for safety !
A headlock by Pippa was linked seamlessly into a powerslam.
Pandora found herself on the receiving end of a 2-count then had Pippa in a painful looking headscissors.
This fast paced match was concluded on 12 minutes by a pin, proceeded by a stunning suplex.

Match 8:
Pro-Style:
Lucy Clayden v Roxi:

Both girls came back for their second match of the day.
As the match unfolded, it was clear that there was a lot of respect for each other.
Although Lucy could claim to be the stronger of the two, Roxi counteracted with her speed and a
couple of spectacular moves, including a hurricanrana which drew great applause from an admiring
audience.
Roxi obtained two separate 2-counts.
Lucy also put Roxi into a camel-clutch.
Roxi then appeared to be wearing her rival down by pummeling her head to the canvas in a perfectly
legal leg lock motion, for 2 separate 10 counts !!!
The girls then linked up with painful looking splits, each outdoing the other in quick succession.
A very enjoyable match with much professionalism was concluded with a close fought victory.

Match 9:
Mat-Based Tag Match: 20 minute duration.
Shelby Beach & Dynamo v Phoenix & Pippa L'Vinn:

A fascinating climax to this event featured a Mat-Based Tag Match.
Shelby teamed with Dynamo whilst Pippa sided with Phoenix.
A series of furious exchanges between the girls led to each wrestler having an early slice of the action.
Dynamo faced Phoenix to start with, tapping in Pippa soon after.
The roles continued to change throughout the bout.
When Pippa and Shelby faced each other the crowd responded warmly... we never tire of seeing these great
rivals tussle, each seeking to outdo the other. Though they know each others style so well, they are able
to continually dig deep into their vast repertoire to gain any advantage.
Dynamo again showed awesome strength and power, as did the volatile Phoenix.
Towards the climax of the bout all 4 girls locked up in a tangle of bodies in the centre of the ring.
All sense of time was lost as the audience were transfixed on the action taking place.
The 20 minute time duration just flew by with a 3-2 victory.

Summary:
Yet again Pippa L'Vinn succeeded in producing another high quality and wonderfully entertaining show.
The wrestling (and boxing) throughout was of the highest standard with a very appreciative and supportive
audience.
Pippa continues to break down (or should that be drop-kick) barriers by continually promoting new
girls to the wrestling factory, along with regular favourites.
I strongly suspect that there is no harder working lady in the wrestling business.
Pippa always has time for all of her many fans as well, which makes her a very special person, adored
and admired by so many of us.

The individual downloads and the event DVD from this memorable show will be released very soon.
