A ROSE BLOOMS AGAIN

Scarlett Rose

by S. Mata

A definite favorite of PGWA fans returns to our ring again after an absence of more than a year. It's not as if Scarlett Rose hasn't wanted to come back to the PGWA... it's just that she's been so busy elsewhere, she simply hasn't had the time to make the trip down to Tennessee. Happily, the stars have aligned again, and this battling bombshell is coming back!

A great deal can happen to a wrestler in a year's time, and that's certainly the case with Scarlett. Since we last saw her, she had been forced into servitude to her longtime nemesis, Camron Star, and this quintessential 'good girl' was made to wrestle as a rule breaking villain by Star... who also managed to play some mind games on Scarlett, and in a bit of what is known as Stockholm Syndrome, soon had the youngster somewhat brainwashed. Under Camron's thrall, Scarlett seemed to take an almost heady glee out of ignoring the rules and punishing her opponents. It was a side of her that no one... least of all her legion of loyal fans... could ever dream even existed. In time, however, Scarlett rejected Camron and returned to her rule-abiding ways.

Did that trip to the dark side of wrestling leave a fundamental change in Scarlett? "I haven't really changed that much," she assures us. "I'm still the same old Scarlett. I still love my fans and still stand by my choices in the ring." If perhaps she sounds a little too fervent in her assertion, that's entirely understandable. She might very well still be harboring fears that her dark side could reemerge in the future.

One thing's certain... once she managed to free herself from Camron Star's clutches, Scarlett did get more aggressive in terms of seeking out new challengers. It's as if she was now determined to push herself to the utmost, perhaps as a means of purging that period of involuntary villainy from her soul. And it didn't seem so much about winning matches... although that's clearly always the ultimate goal... as it was simply testing herself and giving her best possible effort. "I have wrestled some pretty good opponents lately... Elecktra Fine, Paige Adams, Tracy Brooks, Christie Ricci, and of course, Camron Star. I've even wrestled against some great guys in matches. And yes, I've had my fair share of losses, but doesn't everybody? I'm still trying to one-up myself, and just be all that I can be and put all that I can into each and every single match."

Still, didn't that dark spell leave its mark on the otherwise vivacious young woman? Could she fully escape the shadow of what she was made to become and made to do? "Like I said before, I'm still the Scarlett I was. I was being controlled and told what to say and what to do, and made to believe that all of my fans hated me. But yes, maybe I can say there is a difference in myself now: I don't take the crap from everybody like I used to! I'm back to being me... no control, no lies. My fans are here and so am I, and nothing will ever change that again!"

When a date on her packed calendar finally opened up, Scarlett had only one request to the PGWA: Put her in the ring against the toughest newcomer we could find. That proved easy enough, for at the same time, another young woman about to make her PGWA debut was making the same request. Belle Von Black is currently electrifying rings for OVW, and prior to that she was the Stamped Women's Champion in her native Calgary. As if those aren't impressive enough credentials, she can boast to being one of only two women to graduated from Stu Hart's legendary "Dungeon" training school. In short, she's the kind of opponent most any wrestler would be a bit intimidated by.

But rather than being intimidated, Scarlett is thrilled with this challenge. "I'm ready for someone new, and if she's from OVW, then I know she'll be good. I really don't know what's she's capable of, but then, she doesn't know what I can do, either. I've already heard through the locker room grapevine that Belle Von Black is boasting that she'll never lose to me. Well, I think maybe she'll find out on July 21st that there's a first time for everything!"

Beyond the match with Von Black, Scarlett is looking ahead to more matches with the organization. "I'm always up for wrestling in the PGWA, and I'm looking forward to facing anyone they'd like to put me into the ring with. Eventually, of course, I'd love a chance at Nikki Roxx's title.

As our conversation draws to a close, Scarlett grows quiet and seems to withdraw into herself. Then, in a voice tinged with a bit of regret, she softly says, "I've made some bad choices. I let someone control my every waking thought and turn me into something that I was not. I am truly sorry if anyone was hurt by my actions."

Then, the light of pride gleaming in her eyes again, a confident smile returns to her face as she says, "The thorns are gone... America's Sweetheart lives!"

And to that we can only add... Amen!
