LadySports ::: Q & A: STACEY O'BRIEN

LUCK OF THE IRISH

STACEY O'BRIEN

by Shiai Mata

There's a long-standing myth that what the Irish crave the most are to raise a little hell and spoil for a fight. And now comes Stacey O'Brien, a lovely Irish lass, who is here to prove that myth to be ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. Stacey O'Brien (as she often refers to herself in the third person as) has the skill to match her temper, and an ego that is unmatched by any, and she's been tearing up rings in the Midwest, letting nothing stand in her way of achieving her goal... which is nothing short of being "the best women's wrestler the world has ever known!" Far-fetched, you say? It almost sounds as if Stacey is believing a little too much in her own magic. Well, maybe. But then again, someone has to find that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow someday, don't they? Maybe Ms. O'Brien will be that one...

LADYSPORTS: When did you first get into the sport?
STACEY O'BRIEN: I started training around 18, but even at the young age of 16, Stacey O'Brien was sought out by a local wrestler asking if I was interested in becoming a professional wrestler. At the time my parents did not want me to get "beat up", though I always knew that it would be me dishing out the punishment. When I turned 18 I met my boyfriend, a huge wrestling fan, who sparked my interest in wrestling, and especially going to local wrestling shows. I knew it was what I wanted to do. I decided that Stacey O'Brien would be the best women's wrestler the world has ever known. So I called the local wrestler that sought me out, and I started training right away.

LS: Who trained you?
SO'B: When I started training, it was just a couple of no-names wrestling in Boston. But I knew that not just anyone could train and mold a talent as unique and destined for fame as mine. So I decided I needed better trainers. I had heard of a wrestler in St. Louis, Jeremy Lightfoot. He has been around for ten years and had done some of the craziest things I had ever seen! Along with his amazing in-ring ability, he had also trained international superstars like Randy Orton and Matt Sydell, and local superstars such as MsChif. I knew that this was talent that could train the future of professional wrestling. I moved to St. Louis when I was 18 and started training with Lightfoot and Billy Diamond for MMWA-SICW. The rest is history.

LS: What was your biggest influence to become a wrestler?
SO'B: "The Boston Bombshell" Stacey O'Brien has always had a fighting Irish attitude. I have had a problem getting along with others for as long as I can remember. So I think that wrestling, or some form of fighting, was always bound to be in my future. Harley Race was a big inspiration. I always loved his ferocity and toughness. Ric Flair has also been an inspiration. I would hang on his every word.

LS: What other sports do you have an interest in?
SO'B: What other sports are there? All of those other activities people call sports are just men and women playing games, trying to rekindle a moment of their youth. Professional wrestling is the only real sport. Where else can you get such raw and intense emotion, and still be able to rip people apart? I let everyone know that Stacey O'Brien is the greatest in pro wrestling today, and nobody can change that. Like me or not, the future of this business is Stacey O'Brien.

LS: In terms of persona or image, what is your most marked characteristic as a wrestler?
SO'B: When Stacey O steps in the ring, people stare, and the cameras flare. I am the best technical wrestler known to man. My style and agility are unmatched, as is my beauty. My "fighting Irish" attitude is a step above the rest. Which explains the number of opponents that have fallen at my feet. It should be well known that Stacey O is the greatest the world has to offer today.

LS: Describe a typical day of training for you. What is most important in your workout?
SO'B: Drinking and fighting

LS: How would you best describe your ring style?
SO'B: My main objective is to break people down slowly and methodically. I take my opponents apart piece by piece, until their spine is broken in half. If you break the back of your opponent, the mind and the spirit will also be broken. One by one I rearrange their vertebrae until there's nothing left. That's when MY fun begins.

LS: What moves are you best known for?
SO'B: That is a wicked stupid question. All of them. This Lucky Irish Lass is, and will remain, unparalleled when it comes to the execution of moves with her own unique style and grace. If you are asking for my favorite moves, I like to use... The Boston Backbreaker (a swinging slam backbreaker) Irish Thunder (a cartwheel into front senton) Celtic Clutch (a gas mask into camel clutch)

LS: Who have been your toughest opponents?
SO'B: That is funny! Are you serious? Never in my amazing career in professional wrestling, have I ever had a "tough" opponent. In fact, I'm starting to wonder if there are any opponent's that can match my style and charisma in the ring. So for your "tough" opponent, I doubt it.

LS: Who are your allies?
SO'B: Stacey O'Brien has no allies. You have to learn, in this business, that there are no allies... everyone is out to steal your money, success, and fame. Those are MY lucky charms, and no one is going to take them away from me.

LS: Who is the one wrestler you would most like to face in the ring, but haven't yet?
SO'B: All of them. Let it be known, "The Green Goddess" Stacey O'Brien, would like to face any female that can present a challenge. This is a public challenge to any woman wrestler who thinks she can hang with me. I'm starting to get bored over here.

LS: What sort of reactions do you get from people when they learn you are a wrestler?
SO'B: First and foremost, Stacey O wants everyone to know that it doesn't matter what your reaction is. Who are they? I don't need anyone's approval. Opinions mean nothing. I came here to win and to prove to everyone that I am the greatest the world has to offer today, or any day!

LS: What is so special about this sport to you?
SO'B: Where else can you show you're the greatest, rip people limb from limb, make them bleed, break their back, spit on them and get praise for it?

LS: What are your fans like?
SO'B: I don't risk my life out there every night for the approval of a speck of dust in the shadow of Stacey O. I do it because I know that I am the greatest wrestler in the world. Any other woman wrestler is definitely a step down from Stacey O'Brien. As for the fans, whether you love me or you hate me, I'm here to prove to everyone that I am the best and I'm not going anywhere for a long, long time.

LS: What are your thoughts on women participating in the sport?
SO'B: There should be more women participation in the sport. Women are, more often than not, brushed under the rug in a lot of promotions. They treat women's matches as a warm up for men's matches. Women who can rock the show like Stacey O should get the same chances as everyone else. But that doesn't happen very often, so I do what I have to do... Steal the Show!

LS: What was your most unforgettable moment in the sport?
SO'B: I was offered the chance to do a hardcore match in Iowa. The best thing about the offer was that my opponent was my trainer's wife, and long time rival, Alexis Lightfoot. I busted her open with the use of a steal chair. Blood erupted everywhere. Where else can you do that?

LS: What would you do if you couldn't be in wrestling?
SO'B: I would find another way to profit from my natural fighting abilities.

LS: What would make you most happy in life?
SO'B: It would make me happy to finally get the praise Stacey O deserves, by receiving a lucrative contract and getting all the superstar treatment!

LS: How would you describe yourself in terms of attitude, personality, likes, dislikes, and strengths?
SO'B: Describing "The Boston Bombshell" Stacey O is not easy. I am a very complex, deep person. In terms of strengths, I am the epitome of strength. I embody mental strength, and have the physical attributes of a Greek goddess. My motto is, kill or be killed. People say Stacey O'Brien is hard to get along with. You have to fight your way to the top. No one is going to help you. You have to make what you have, even if it means taking some people out in the process. I am very aggressive in every aspect of my life. If I want something, I get it. I know that Stacey O'Brien is the greatest the world has to offer, and soon everyone will know.
