LadySports ::: ASHLEY NICELY

Q & A: ASHLEY NICELY

"There are a lot of women in this business for the wrong reasons."

Professional Wrestling is not always known as a bastion of truth in advertising. (Rule of thumb: "All Stars" usually translates into "No Stars"). But here's a happy instance of something being exactly as it's claimed to be: Ashley Nicely is just plain nice!

Make no mistake, though... in the ring, she's a tiny hellion who isn't afraid to take on any opponent. But away from the ring wars, she has a healthy appreciation for her fans, and an equally healthy respect for her profession. She's the kind of person the business needs more of.

And so, without further ado, LadySports Online is pleased to introduce fans to the very nice... and very successful... Ashley Nicely!

THE STATS:

Height: 5'1"

Weight: 105 lbs

Hair: Reddish brown

LADYSPORTS: When did you first get into the sport?
ASHLEY NICELY: I've been in wrestling for two and a half years now.

LS: Who trained you?
AN: I was trained by Alan Cross and a few other people at Maximum Championship Wrestling.

LS: What was your biggest influence to become a wrestler?
AN: Watching the girls on TV and seeing how the fans reacted to them. I just connected with the whole atmosphere.

LS: What other sports do you have an interest in?
AN: I love watching Ultimate Fighting but I don't think I could ever do it. And I love playing all kinds of sports, like baseball and soccer.

LS: How would you describe yourself in terms of attitude, personality and strengths?
AN: I consider myself to be a very respectful and kind person. My strengths would have to be my will power and my heart to not give up even when things get tough.

LS: Describe a typical day of training for you. What is most important in your workout?
AN: I do a lot of grappling training and cardio. I do some strength training, but I mostly rely on my speed and technique.

LS: How would you best describe your ring style?
AN: Technical and constantly moving. I'm a lot smaller than the other girls... and sometimes guys... that I wrestle, so I usually try to stay on my feet and not let them get me down.

LS: Did you base your ring style or even your persona on any one particular wrestler?
AN: Not particularly on one person. I watch other peoples' matches like Sara del Rey and Nikki Roxx and many others all the time. I see what they do and try to make it my own.

LS: What specific signature moves are you best known for?
AN: I like doing a flying head scissors. And I also do a Hurricanarana in a lot of my matches.

LS: Have you ever been injured in the ring?
AN: Little bumps and bruises. Nothing major yet.

LS: Since you've begun, have you ever had a "Why am I still doing this" moment?
AN: Never... I love wrestling and I want to continue doing it for as long as I can.

LS: Who have been your toughest opponents?
AN: One of my toughest opponents would have to be Rebecca Payne. That girl can really hit and she has a great size advantage on me.

LS: Who are your allies?
AN: I usually team up with Autumn Breeze. And when I'm in mixed tag team matches, I team up with Alan Cross a lot.

LS: What has been your most memorable win?
AN: That would definitely have to be on March 8th, 2008 in Blue Ridge Summit, Pennsylvania when I won the Maximum Championship Wrestling Women's Title by defeating Autumn Breeze.

LS: What was your worst loss?
AN: My worst lost was when I had my first title match against Autumn Breeze. I just felt like I let my fans and my family down. But two months later, I went for the belt again and got it!

LS: Who is the one wrestler you would most like to face in the ring, but haven't yet?
AN: I would definitely like to wrestle Sara del Rey, although I know she would probably kill me!

LS: What type of match do you enjoy the most?
AN: I haven't had the chance to do this match yet, but I love submission matches. I'm very big on submissions because they can work for you no matter what size you are.

LS: What sort of reactions do you get from people when they learn you are a wrestler?
AN: Everyone is usually shocked because of my size, but when I tell people that I am a women's champion, they realize that size doesn't matter.

LS: What is so special about this sport to you?
AN: The fans mean everything to me. If it wasn't for the fans, there would be no wrestling.

LS: What are your fans like?
AN: My fans are awesome! They are very supportive. My family have to be my biggest fans, though. They just love coming to see me at shows.

LS: If you had the power, what one thing would you do to improve the sport?
AN: I would improve the way people look at women's wrestling. Many people think we are just there for eye candy, but that is totally false. We can get in there and do just as much as the guys.

LS: Where have you wrestled, and what titles have you held?
AN: I've wrestled in Pennsylvania for MCW, SWA, ACW, SWO, UCW, PCWA, PXW, CWF and ACPW. In Virginia for AWE. Also in West Virginia for FOW. And in Delaware for MCW, where I am the current women's champion. And last but not least, in New Jersey for NAW.

LS: What are your thoughts on women participating in the sport?
AN: I think that there are a lot of women in this business for the wrong reasons. And they give the women athletes a bad rep. I guess maybe that's why so many people look down on women's wrestling.

LS: Any regrets?
AN: None at all. I love this business with all my heart, and I'm so happy to be a part of it. And I'm always looking forward to the next show and getting in front of the next crowd.

LS: What do you suppose you would be doing if you couldn't be in wrestling?
AN: If I couldn't be a wrestler, then I would have to do something involved with wrestling. I would be a part of this business one way or another. But if I couldn't be in wrestling at all, I would probably be a vet or something to do with animals because I love animals.

LS: If you could have only one more final match, who would you most want to have as your opponent, and why?
AN: I would love to wrestle Trish Stratus. She's just done so much in this business and I've always looked up to her.

LS: What is your personal motto?
AN: I really don't have a motto right now, but I would just say that "All dreams can be a reality as long as you really want it and you don't give up."

LS: What would make you most happy in life?
AN: To one day be known worldwide for my accomplishments and everything I have worked very hard for.

LS: Anything else you'd like to add?
AN: I would just like to let my fans know that they can contact me whenever they want at www. myspace. com/ashleynicely121

LS: Thanks for making the time to speak with us!
AN: Thank you for interviewing me. I had a great time.
