Q & A WITH MYSTIK

"Let your soul and spirit fly... into the mystic."

by S. Mata

So sang Van Morrison. And the woman known to wrestling fans as Mystik has been taking that bit of Celtic advice to heart, putting every bit of herself into the sport, and loving every moment of it.

Now, it's our pleasure to introduce this Minnesota battler to LadySports Online fans!

Ring Name: Mystik

Height: 6'

Weight: 150

Hair: Brown with blonde and red highlights

Hometown: Backus, MN

Age: 26

LADYSPORTS ONLINE: When did you first get into the sport?
MYSTIK: When I was talking smack to a friend and he bodyslammed me on the couch! Next thing I know, I'm wrestling around and learning moves and submissions. I was HOOKED. I LOVED IT! I became a big fan of wrestling, which lead me to start training professionally myself.

LS: Who trained you?
M: One year with William Wasserman. Wrestern Wrestling Assocation/Wrestling School, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Six Months with MidWest ProWrestling/MPW, Terry (Sheriff) and Eddie Sharky. And Rain. Thanks to all the wrestlers that helped me train.

LS: What was your biggest influence to become a wrestler?
M: I was compelled to do something drastic. And I did it to prove to myself that I could have anything that I wanted as long as I was willing to fight for it.

LS: What other sports do you have an interest in?
M: I like volleyball to play, and Vikings football to watch.

LS: How would you describe yourself in terms of attitude, personality, likes, dislikes, and strengths?
M: I am the kind of girl that knows what I want. I set goals and fight hard to achieve them. I have so much heart for the business and truly love the fans and all that wrestling offers. The thrills, the pain... that's the name of the game. I've been told that I am stubborn, and can get mean if I need too. But, I am strong, and nothing can keep me away from that ring, and my fans.

LS: What is your most marked characteristic?
M: The color red, and my shirt outfits. And my homemade entrance music, "DIVA" (TM)/The Workin' Man/Shon Cody.

LS: What are you favorite foods, music, clothes, cars?
M: Food... yes, I'll eat anything. I like all music, but love to ROCK the most. My clothes have no holes, and I like American muscle cars. Grrrrr... .

LS: Describe a typical day of training for you. What is most important in your workout?
M: Cardio is probably the most important to me. I run/bike/hike a lot. Sit-ups and light weights 4 days a week. Gym memberships in the winter. Gold's Gym or YMCA. In-ring training is a lot tougher. Running DRILLS and pushing your body to its limits. Wrestling is not for the weak.

LS: How would you best describe your ring style?
M: Mostly strong style. I like to use fancy pins, and working the crowd as much as I can.

LS: What moves are you best known for?
M: Crucifix Bomb/Pin and the Habit Breaker.

LS: Have you ever been injured in the ring?
M: Yes, I have broken my neck. It's been a hard comeback. My C-1 vertabre was fractured during a camp workout. I was lucky to escape with no permanant damage.

LS: Who have been your toughest opponents?
M: Rain gave me one of my biggest beatings. Ann Brookstone and Heather Zumhoft have given me my most intense matches. They are all really tough girls!

LS: Who are your allies?
M: Ann Brookstone and Jared Darkside are my biggest allies. We have a lot of unfinshed business, and a lot of heat.

LS: What has been your most memorable win?
M: When I came through my worst beating to defeat Rain with the Crucifix Bomb for the NSE Women's title. I had to earn that one!

LS: What was your worst loss?
M: When Jared Darkside pulled my feet out from under me, by the apron, when I had Eva Rose up for a bodyslam. He made Eva fall on my chest, the held my feet down, without the ref seeing, to cost me my NSE title.

LS: Who is the one wrestler you would most like to face in the ring, but haven't yet?
M: I don't know. I don't feel like I'm lacking competition.

LS: What type of match do you enjoy the most?
M: I like singles matches.

LS: What sort of reactions do you get from people when they learn you are a wrestler?
M: They are usually surprised. There are not a lot of girls that wrestle. Girls usually asked how I can do that. Guys always want to wrestle. A lot of people are only nice, after they find out. I don't have time for that.

LS: What is so special about this sport to you?
M: It gives me a way to escape for reality, and expressed feelings and emotions freely. A way to take out ANGER and AGGRESSION. I like to feel pain from exhaustion, the THRILL of cutting that curtain, and showing the fans that THEY are the reason that I am here. Without the fans, we would not be anything. Thanks!

LS: What are your fans like?
M: They are supportive, and real. Without my fans, I don't know if I could have made it this far.

LS: If you had the power, what one thing would you do to improve the sport?
M: I would try to improve the locker room. Some wrestlers have attitudes that ruin the sport.

LS: Where have you wrestled, and what titles have you held?
M: I have wrestled for Western Wrestling Association, NorthStar Entertainment, NAW, ProWrestling RUSH, 3XW, SteelDomain Wrestling, Rock-N-Roll Wrestling, Promidwest Wrestling. These are just some of the companies. I have held NSE Women's title, and am currently NAW's Women's champ. Work mostly Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, North and South Dakota.

LS: What are your thoughts on women participating in the sport?
M: Most of us work just as hard as the guys. It takes a special kind of girl to do this, but women belong here as much as men.

LS: What was your most unforgettable moment in the sport?
M: It is a moment that never stops making my heart pound... my ring entrance!

LS: Any regrets?
M: None

LS: What would you do if you couldn't be in wrestling?
M: I couldn't imagine what life would be without wrestling. I would be lost. Without it, I'm afraid my spark would fade.

LS: What is your personal motto?
M: I'm Mystik! And if you don't RECOGNIZE, you soon will!

LS: What would make you most happy in life?
M: Success whether it be big or small.

LS: Anything else you'd like to add?
M: Thank you so much for inviting me to do this interview. I love to express what wrestling and my fans mean to me, and you have given me that chance.
