Injury, Surgery takes Redhead out of the Ring

UPDATE... this just in from Molly...

"I had what is called a labral tear, which occurred during a match on July 12.
I performed a move that rotated my arms in my shoulder sockets. I'm pretty sure
that is what did it. I will be in physical therapy for quite a while and am
looking at six months before I can lift anything heavy. When the surgeon got
into the joint it turns out the damage was worse than what was originally thought,
so I will know more on October 9th when I have my post operative appointment.
I pray that I will have a complete recovery and get in the ring at least one more
time!

Molly McShane will be out of wrestling for at least six months, after struggling with an ongoing shoulder problem that she underwent surgery for on October 1st.

During a match in Hagerstown, Maryland back in early July, Molly had a very tough brawl that was almost a free-for-all against several wrestlers, who together worked her over for a long while before the redheaded veteran regained control of the match and took all of her opponents 'to school'.

But when she came out of the ring, her shoulder was in a lot of pain. Still, she told herself, that was just the nature of the sport, and aches and pains are just the risks you take. She had been injured before, but in several days she was certain she would be okay again.

That wasn't the case however, and the pain kept growing worse as the days and weeks went by. Finally, realizing this was no simple nagging injury, McShane went to her doctor. After an examination, she was referred to a specialist, and was told that she would have to undergo surgery if there was no progress in her shoulder improving.

Carefully nursing her shoulder for several months, Molly had to cancel all of her scheduled matches, including several she had booked with the PGWA. Unfortunately, in spite of all of her efforts, her houlder did not improve sufficiently. Her physicians told her that there is now no other alternative to surgery.

The Irish lass has been a longtime favorite of the PGWA fans, many of whom will recall that Molly was the PGWA Rookie of the Year in 1994. She was also cited as an Up and Coming Star by the Cauliflower Alley Club in 1996, and was a popular fixture in the WCW women’s division in the late 1990s. After a retirement of several years, McShane resumed wrestling, and had been working steadily for a variety of independent promotions. She made her return to the PGWA earlier this year in a match against Miss Tiff, and the two wrestled a rematch several months later.

Their rematch will be available for download at LadySports.com soon, and all money raised from its sale will be given to Molly to help cover her medical expenses.

Molly added that one of the regrets she’s feeling about being sidelined right now is that she will not be able to participate in the PGWA’s "A Banner Night" live event in Tennessee on November the 15th. Having known Penny Banner personally and always considering her an inspiration and a friend, McShane wanted nothing more than to help pay tribute to Penny at the show. She wishes all of the wrestlers who are booked for the card success.
