VICKY MORTON

"They know it's all true... "

by S. Mata

At first blush, it may be a bit hard to take a woman dubbed "Hellbunny" as a serious threat, particularly when you see she's a mere 5'4"... hardly the stuff of intimidation, that. It's only when you see her in action... oftentimes against men considerably larger than her... that you can begin to appreciate that she puts the accent on the HELL in that nickname!

Although already an experience manager in her native Britain, Vicky Morton has been branching out of late into pursuing an actual wrestling career for herself. She's the first to admit that she's still in the learning process. But it's refreshing to discover that 'Vix' remains completely open to learning as much as she can about the sport she loves. With an attitude like that, one suspects this particular bunny is going to go rather far.

It gives LadySports Online great pleasure to introduce Vicky Morton!

Ring Name: 'Hellbunny' Vicky Morton

Height: 5'4"

Weight: 120 lbs

Hair: Red/Black (it changes all the time)

Hometown: Kidderminster, England

LADYSPORTS: When did you first get into the sport?
VICKY MORTON: Through my old High School teacher Mr. Barth, who did a bit of pro wrestling at the weekends. I was always a huge fan of WWE, etc. so I asked Mr. Barth where I could train to become a wrestler, and he hooked me up with a school based about 15 miles from me. From there I trained every Thursday for six months, until my day job manager made me change my hours, so I had to miss about six months of training. As soon as I quit that job and got myself another, I was back in training again and soon got back into the swing of things there.

LS: Who trained you?
VM: I first was trained by a guy called the Bull, who has toured the U.S and worked for many indy promotions here in the UK. From there I met my husband-to-be, 'Mr. #1' Jonny Costello, who kind of took over from there, and we did little bits before shows in the ring, two or three times a week. I have also been aided by Tracy Smothers, who I spent a lot of time with a few months ago. I am always learning though, and watch as much wrestling as I can, both live and on tape.

LS: What was your biggest influence to become a wrestler?
VM: I was a huge WWE fan, so I liked the guys and girls there. I liked people like Rey Mysterio because of the amazing high flying moves he could do, and Triple H because he was such a great heel and really knew how to work the crowd. Same goes for Ric Flair, who I unfortunately missed during his prime years, but thought he was still an amazing worker.

LS: What other sports do you have an interest in?
VM: I love any kind of extreme sport... BMX, skate boarding, bull riding, dirt bikes, in-line, etc.

LS: How would you describe yourself in terms of attitude, personality, likes, dislikes, and strengths?
VM: My attitude is keen... Personality is bubbly... Likes are The Extreme... Dislikes anyone boring... and Strengths are being a natural leader.

LS: What is your most marked characteristic as a wrestler?
VM: Being so small and not having a great deal of experience yet, I am kind of the underdog. Especially when I have to very often wrestle men twice my size!

LS: Describe a typical day of training for you. What is most important in your workout?
VM: I walk a hell of a lot! I find a good three mile walk keeps me invigorated for the whole day. I also like to work out in the ring like I said, two or three times a week, just keeping the basics fresh and trying to learn some new tricks.

LS: How would you best describe your ring style?
VM: Fast-paced kind of rookie Lucha style. I am a Luchadora in training!

LS: What moves are you best known for?
VM: I have mastered a real fast Huracanrana, and with my martial arts skills I have some pretty mean kicks, too.

LS: Have you ever been injured in the ring?
VM: I have a lip piercing, and one time it got totally ripped out. That's about it so far, though.

LS: Who have been your toughest opponents?
VM: Believe it or not, it has been my husband, Jonny Costello.

LS: Who are your allies?
VM: Friends close and enemies closer; it's also Jonny, but I have some good friends in wrestling, like the people who have helped me along the way... the Bull, Sam Daniels, T-Bon and Mike Bird, who showed me some really cool high flying stuff.

LS: What has been your most memorable win?
VM: Against one of my trainers, the Bull and 'Kronic' Fanny Payne in a mixed tag bout with my husband as my partner. We won the Intergender Tag Team Championship belts!

LS: What was your worst loss?
VM: Against Jonny... he beat the hell out of me! But it was a huge learning experience.

LS: Who is the one wrestler you would most like to face in the ring, but haven't yet?
VM: I love some of the great women wrestlers of the past. I would love to get in the ring and learn from legends like Luna and Klondyke Kate!

LS: What type of match do you enjoy the most?
VM: Traditional good old wrestling matches.

LS: What sort of reactions do you get from people when they learn you are a wrestler?
VM: Because of my size and my sex, they tend not to believe me. But most of my friends and family have seen me in action now, so they know it's all true.

LS: What is so special about this sport to you?
VM: I have such a passion for wrestling and it has given me so much. I have seen towns I never would have been to without it. I have traveled with and met some great people, and even met my husband through it, so it has given me so much.

LS: What are your fans like?
VM: They're all really cool! I would like to thank them all for the support they show me, whether I am in a full wrestling match or just there to support one of my men as a manager at ringside. My mums my biggest fan, though.

LS: If you had the power, what one thing would you do to improve the sport?
VM: Make women's wrestling more equal. It seems like women's wrestling is more of a sideshow some times and not a real part of the show.

LS: Where have you wrestled, and what titles have you held?
VM: I have worked England, Scotland and Wales for HCW-UK, Pro EV Promotions, Celtic Wrestling, Legends Wrestling League, EWF and SWE. I have won the Intergender Tag Team Championship.

LS: What are your thoughts on women participating in the sport?
VM: I think it's great! I would like to meet more women interested in it.

LS: What was your most unforgettable moment in the sport?
VM: My first match. I only went to watch, but had my bag with me. When one girl did not show up, then I got the chance to wrestle. It was only a quick 5 minute bout, but it was great, and I had no time to worry or be nervous.

LS: Any regrets?
VM: Not at all

LS: What would you do if you couldn't be in wrestling?
VM: I would be a very lonely person, probably sitting at home watching TV every night.

LS: What is your personal motto?
VM: If you can dream it, you can do it.

LS: What would make you most happy in life?
VM: My family and being around the wrestling game. I am really lucky because they both go together, with my husband wrestling as well. I have a great package there.

LS: Anything else you'd like to add?
VM: vickymorton.tripod.com... no www... is my site, and myspace.com/vicsaundersspace is my MySpace. I am always willing to hear from anyone who can give me help or advice... bookers, promoters, wrestlers, or just general wrestling fans. Thank you all for taking the time to read this. Be safe!
