Q & A: AMY VITALE

"My mom would have washed my mouth out with soap!"

by Shiai Mata

To those fans who have seen Amy Vitale at ringside, the immediate image is of an insufferably arrogant rich girl, one who flaunts her Italian heritage and her supposed superiority in equal measure. As a manager or valet, Vitale brings cunning, conniving and cruelty to match her beauty.
And that's precisely the impression this Floridian wants people to take away from the shows. But outside of the ring, Amy is anything but the mean-spirited 'princess' she portrays... although in both her public and private lives, she shares such traits as a passion for her beliefs and fearlessness in pursuing what she desires.
LadySports Online is proud to introduce Amy Vitale to fans worldwide in this exclusive new interview!

LADYSPORTS: When did you first get into the sport?
AMY VITALE: I started in the business when I was just sixteen years old. Almost thirteen years ago.

LS: Where did you train?
AV: Sunshine Wrestling Federation

LS: What was your biggest influence to get into the business?
AV: My biggest influence is because, like everybody else, I started out as a fan. I grew up watching the UWF and old NWA, which eventually got into WWF (now WWE) and WCW. I grew up watching people like Ted DiBiase, Eddie Gilbert, and Ric Flair.

LS: What other sports do you have an interest in?
AV: I use to be a soccer player when I was in middle school. I also like to watch baseball and football.

LS: How would you describe yourself in terms of attitude, personality, likes, dislikes, and strengths?
AV: I have a positive attitude. I have been through so much in life with the deaths of my mother and sister, you have to be positive. They are my strengths, the fact that both of them were such troopers, trying to fight off such a deadly disease as cancer. People don't understand the value of life until they go through something like that... how much people would try to fight so much to live.
I try to not associate myself with the negative aspects in life, whether it be a situation or negative people. They just tend to bring you down.
My personality in the real life is so different in wrestling. In wrestling, I play the "Italian Princess", a rich snob who lives in Boca Raton , one of the wealthiest cities in South Florida . Usually when people hear "Boca Raton", they scowl because it has a reputation for having snobby people living there. I bring my Italian heritage... my heritage means so much to me in real life... into play with my character, but including all the stereotypes that you hear about Italians. My character also has no fear, which sometimes can get her into trouble. I dress like a younger version of Victoria Gotti, with the jewelry and the furs (fake, animal-friendly fur, of course!). It's a lot of fun.
In real life, my personality is a warmhearted person with a great sense of humor. I love to do comedy spots in wrestling, so poking fun at myself to make others laugh puts a smile on my face. I will be your friend for life, and if you told me something and said not to repeat it to anybody, I will keep that secret safe. I have no problem helping people, but I'm also business and won't stand for anything unjust, whether it's against me or something I believe in.
My likes are animals (I have three cats and a dog at home), kind and legit people, music, shopping at Victoria's Secret, and comedy, horror, Mafia/gangster movies, sushi and Spanish food.
My dislikes are people that are mean in nature, anybody that hurts animals, bugs, and bad breath.

LS: Describe a typical day of training for you. What is most important in your workout?
AV: I usually can train in the gym from an hour to an hour and a half anywhere to three to seven days a week. I think all parts of your body are important to train. You can't work so hard on some place and let something else go slack.

LS: Have you ever been injured in the ring?
AV: Around when I first started, I pinched a nerve in my neck when I had a piledriver performed on me.

LS: What type of match do you enjoy the most?
AV: An 'Anything Goes' match where you brawl around the building. The Heartbreak Express are notorious for that.

LS: What sort of reactions do you get from people when they learn you are a manager/valet?
AV: It can either range from disgust, to "that's cool", to "so you do mud wrestling?"

LS: What is so special about this sport to you?
AV: That the guys that I work with are like my brothers. They will watch over me and have my back, as I would for them. It's the best relationship that anyone can ask for. And, I'm very thankful to have that type of relationship.

LS: What are your fans like?
AV: My fans are awesome! Yeah, once in awhile I have a fan that gets a little too carried away. Even the kids say things that they shouldn't, which is a wonder where their parents are when these words are being said. I know my mom would have washed my mouth out with soap. But, my actual fans are the greatest.

LS: If you had the power, what one thing would you do to improve the sport?
AV: I would keep this sport old school. So much has changed in this sport and it's not necessarily for the best. Most new people that come into this just don't have the respect and appreciation for the sport and the older wrestlers that have helped paved the way for them. It's really a shame. These kids need to be taught how to respect the business. Work their way from the bottom to the top. No more freebies. That is why there is so much drama and egos. If we just take a step back and look what's happening, we would be able to stop the foolishness.

LS: What are your thoughts on women participating in the sport?
AV: I think it's a wonderful thing. There's not enough women in this sport. I have a great respect for them getting in the ring and doing what they do.

LS: What was your most unforgettable moment in the sport?
AV: When Jake "The Snake" Roberts put his pet snake on me at an event in Avon Park , Florida in late 2006. I'm thinking, "So this is what it's like... .".

LS: Any regrets?
AV: No, not at all. I took a few years off from wrestling to get my AS degree. I missed the business so much during those three years that after I got my degree, I came back. I am very happy that I did.

LS: What would you do if you couldn't be in wrestling?
AV: Just model. Right now I do both the modeling and wrestling.

LS: What is your personal motto?
AV: "You can do it if you put your mind to it."

LS: What would make you most happy in life?
AV: To continue to be successful at what I do. And, just like everyone else, world peace. I know we have to do what we have to do in this world. I'm not blind to it, but I just wish everybody would get along and the nonsense killings and murders would stop. I also wish animals have more rights. I hear too many cases on the news that animals are being abused on a regular basis. It's so sad. What did they ever do to us?

LS: Anything else you'd like to add?
AV: I want to thank everyone for their support. I hope to continue to bring you endless entertainment in every show I do. You all have been wonderful. Please check out my MySpace at myspace.com/amyvitale for more updates on my little world. Feel free to friend request me and drop me a message. I may not be able to respond to everyone, but I do read all of my messages, and I do appreciate hearing from the great wrestling fans.
